Yashlatz Student Activities

Yashlatz is known for its academic excellence, both in Torah and secular subjects.  (See our curriculum.) Yet a well-rounded education must include physical activities, experiencing Eretz Yisrael and cultural activities.

On this page, you will see some of our home-grown activities.

Additionally, many Yashlatz students are involved in the neighborhood surrounding the yeshivah, Kiryat Moshe, and most are involved in their home communities.

Hachnassat Sefer Torah

On May 21, Yashlatz celebrated a Hachnassat Sefer Torah - the dedication of a Torah scroll.

The Torah was dedicated in memory of the eight boys and young men killed in the terror attack at the yeshivah four years ago. The donor, a Jerusalem resident, chose to remain anonymous. The event was celebrated at Yashlatz, together with the donor, family members of the Eight, and Yashlatz staff and students.

The scroll was written with exquisite lettering, and was encased, in the Sefardic tradition, in a case that included the names of the Eight for whom it was dedicated, the donor's name, and the name of the Yashlatz Rosh Yeshivah, Rav Weiss.

After dancing and a parade, the Torah joined the other Torah scrolls in the Yashlatz beit midrash.

On March 22, Yashlatz students participated in a special drill which simulated a response to rockets falling at the yeshivah and causing dozens of casualties and some deaths.

The drill was initiated by the ZAKA terror victims identification organization in cooperation with Home Front Command, Magen David Adom, and Israel Fire and Rescue Services.

The drill was the final part of a course which trained twenty-eight students to act as Mafatzim—“young commanders”—during an emergency, be it an earthquake, a terror attack or any other emergency, whether at school or in home communities.

It's one more way Yashlatznikim are making a difference!

Yashlatznikim from grades 9, 10 and 11 just returned from their annual hike.  This yearly event enables students to connect to the Land of Israel, while building camaraderie and mutual responsibility among them and recharging them for their studies.

Twelfth-graders have their "tiyul shanati" close to the end of the school year, before graduation.

On February 16, Yashlatz marked the fourth yartzeit of the eight boys and young men who were killed in the Mercaz HaRav massacre.  This moving ceremony took place in the Yeshurun Synagogue, and shared divrei Torah, memories of the Eight and musical peices by the Yashlatz choir and guests.
