The History of Yashlatz

Yeshivat Yerushalayim L’Tzeirim (Yashlatz), was founded on August 9, 1964, the first of Elul, 5724, by Rav Yaakov Filber, one of the foremost students of Rav Tzvi Yehuda Kook.  Although adjacent to “Yeshivat Mercaz HaRav” in Jerusalem, Yashlatz was set up as a separate institute of learning with an independent administration and student body.

History of YashlatzThe Yeshivah follows the path established by Rav Avraham Yitzchak Kook and his son, Rav Tzvi Yehuda Kook, which was built upon a vision that included Am Yisrael, Eretz Yisrael, and Torat Yisrael (the Nation of Israel, the Land of Israel, and the Torah of Israel).

Rav Filber assembled a staff comprised of graduates from Yeshivat Mercaz HaRav which included Rabbis Uzi Klachhain, Tzfana Drori and Eitan Eisman (all of whom eventually became influential Rabbis in the Religious Zionist movement) to run a Yeshivah High School for teenagers, combining Jewish learning with academic studies.

From 1980 until today, the head of Yashlatz has been Rosh Yeshivah Rav Yerachmiel Weiss.
